Action Learning

An Action Learning Set is a supportive environment for enabling small groups to meet regularly to discuss, reflect and find solutions to work-related issues or to develop skills in a common area of interest. Action Learning sets are especially geared to problem-solving, learning and personal development. Professor Reginald Revans developed action learning in the 1940s at the National Coal Board. He was a scientist, university professor and management consultant. He was also a very practical man, keen to develop new ways for managers to learn and develop together. Action learning was rolled out across the NHS extensively and so my experience has come from my long carer both as a clinician and a manager.

“The problem is not to find cleverer people to come up with the answers, but to find people to ask good questions.” Revans

The idea behind action learning is that adults learn best when they can talk with one another, reflect, and plan. At lets get on with it we offer both Action Learning Set facilitation support and training. enabling you to skill up your team members to work in this way.

Action Learning Set

How often do you get your team together to discuss something important about the business, perhaps its a change that needs to happen, perhaps its about leadership and leading in a complex environment. Maybe you have convened partners and stakeholders who care, like you, about a key topic.

You have a great day together, you make plans and promises about what you will do.

It’s no ones fault, your intentions are good, then life takes over, and you back to your day job you and others struggle to maintain the collaboration, connectedness and momentum that you felt so passionate about when you were together.

Action Learning is great way to come together in a meaningful and purposeful way to find solutions, find ways to be less stuck, overcome challenges and boost leadership skills.
